Wombat Bend

An all-abilities playspace on the banks of the Yarra River in Templestowe. The concept design by Ric McConaghy was developed as a collaboration with Simon as landscape architect and planting designer. Manningham Council devoted many hours to community consultation and involvement, including the creation of public art by Anne Riggs with a diverse range of user groups. The planting design aimed to create a heavily-planted landscape that felt like it was of the Yarra, with indigenous planting encircling the playspace and carefully chosen exotic plants within. This great project created a solid foundation and knowledge in nature-based play design.
