A large new regional fire station manned 24 hours, the new building removed the top of a small hill. Remaking the landscape required new topsoil imported to sit above the bedrock and indigenous plantings around the perimeter, creating a link to the local environment. A central vegetable and herb garden for the resident firefighters creates a pleasant domestic feel, with a kitchen garden in the central courtyard.
