MUMA Ian Potter Sculpture Court
Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA)
Collaboration with Fiona Harrisson and KTA
The Ian Potter Sculpture Court provides opportunities for exchange between the internal program of MUMA and the daily life of the campus. A variety of elements bring the inside out, so that art infiltrates the surrounding landscape, activating the university grounds with a cultural focus. The design negotiates the multiple roles of the Sculpture Court and offers a breathing space within both the dense campus spaces of Monash and the busy urban fabric of Caulfield. The design transformed a lifeless carpark into a new focus for the campus. The site was part of an interlinking series of internal and external spaces stamped with a specific identity. While dealing with the site’s own identity, we also conceived of the project as an urban intervention – designed through a series of layers, which operate at the scale of the campus, the site and the body.
