41 Gerbert Street overlays a western plains basaltic landscape meadow in the southwest corner of Meadows Primary School. The intention is to bring children’s curiosity to the beauty and resilience of the local indigenous flora and provide a seamless play environment that surrounds the new classrooms. Meandering pathways, seating areas, outdoor classrooms, quiet spaces and a playground are inserted within the landscape to tie all the spaces together. This allows children’s play to drift between these spaces and the plantings. The principle is committed to providing a soft landscape for the diversity of the students’ needs. The planted landscapes create safe and comforting spaces. The project’s indigenous plants and commitment to nature play results in a softer school experience.
