Hurlestone Ave
Hurlestone Avenue, 2008-2010
Collaboration with Rexroth Mannesmann Architects
Construction: Pacific Australis
Hurlestone Avenue is a large manor garden surrounding a Victorian era boarding house. The garden embraces traditional notions of lawn, pond, drive and outhouse, interwoven with a contemporary and fluid geometry of interconnected spaces. Sustainable water harvesting and landscape detailing, including the reuse of bricks in a reinterpretation of Victorian edging details. The planting is eclectic, with exotic and productive plantings as well as native and succent species. A water-filtering ephemeral creek and swale catches site stormwater, creating a lush feature at the end of the garden and treating water on-site.
