10 Dimboola Road aims to reclaim the civic purpose of the old Broadmeadows Town Hall, and provide relief around its perimeter from the sea of asphalt and car parks. The project instead envisages the Town Hall surrounded by the endangered western plains grasslands and taking advantage of aspects that inspire habitation in the vast and at times hostile landscape. The Hume Council Landscape Team brought careful and persistent effort to combat the wind effects on this frontage. Protected seating areas and a deck from the Hume Art Gallery extends into a more social space that takes advantage of the aspect and shelter from the wind. Rain gardens treat water from the roof and form edges to pathways and customised bike parking areas. Spotted gums from the carpark were retained and integrated and two existing ironbark trees frame the entry to this unique building.
